Yes, the motor features 2 factory speeds. The airflow can be continuously adjusted using an optional step switch or electronic speed controller.

How does the device protect itself from overheating?

The motor is equipped with integrated thermal overload protection (thermal contact). In the event of abnormal overheating, the fan automatically switches off to prevent damage.
