Comedes Demecto 70 – High-Performance Dehumidifier for Large Rooms

The Comedes Demecto 70 is designed to dehumidify larger living areas, basements and storage rooms, as well as spaces with high humidity levels. At 30 °C and 80% relative humidity, its stated dehumidification capacity is 70 litres per 24 hours. Two automatic operating modes, a digital hygrometer, two fan speeds, a timer and a hose connection for condensate drainage allow the appliance to be adapted to different requirements. Actual dehumidification performance depends particularly on ambient temperature and relative humidity.

Key Features at a Glance

  • High dehumidification capacity: 70 L/24 h at 30 °C and 80% RH; maximum 75 L/24 h according to the manufacturer
  • Manufacturer's room-size ratings: up to 120 m² for active dehumidification and up to 240 m² for humidity maintenance, both based on a ceiling height of 2.3 m
  • Continuous drainage option: Hose connection for continuous condensate discharge, provided the drain is correctly installed
  • Automatic functions: Temperature-controlled automatic defrosting, overflow protection and overheating protection

Rated “sehr gut” (“Very Good”) in a 2014 Practical Test

The Comedes Demecto 70 received an overall rating of “sehr gut” (“Very Good”) in a practical test published by Technik zu Hause.de on 10 October 2014. This assessment applies to the appliance tested at that time; the version currently offered may differ in certain technical details. The review highlighted, among other aspects, ease of use, the timer function and low maintenance requirements.

Designed for High Humidity Levels

The Demecto 70 can help regulate humidity in large basements, storage areas and comparable spaces. When selecting a dehumidifier, the amount of moisture entering the room, the room temperature and the desired relative humidity are just as important as floor area. The ratings of up to 120 m² for active dehumidification and 240 m² for humidity maintenance are manufacturer specifications based on a ceiling height of 2.3 m.

Dehumidification, Controls and Water Drainage

In standard automatic mode, the desired relative humidity can be set. The Demecto 70 also offers a temperature-dependent comfort mode. An integrated digital hygrometer displays the ambient relative humidity. The two-speed fan and temperature-controlled automatic defrost function support operation within the specified ambient temperature range of 5 to 35 °C. The unit can also assist with dehumidification following moisture incidents; however, it does not replace professional remediation of the underlying cause of dampness or water damage.

Condensate is collected in the 4.8-litre water tank. A float switch automatically stops operation when the tank is full. Alternatively, the hose connection allows continuous condensate drainage if the drain line is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Features and Ease of Use

  • Two automatic modes: adjustable target relative humidity and temperature-dependent comfort mode
  • Digital hygrometer displaying the current relative humidity
  • Timer for delayed start or switch-off, adjustable from 1 to 24 hours
  • Two fan speeds and temperature-controlled automatic defrosting
  • Side carrying handles and castors for moving the unit
  • Washable pre-filter, subject to the manufacturer's cleaning instructions

Use for construction moisture and following water damage: The appliance can assist with drying the room air. It does not replace professional investigation and elimination of the source of dampness, mould remediation or specialist water-damage restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Demecto 70

Is the Demecto 70 suitable for cooler basements?

According to the manufacturer, the appliance is designed for ambient temperatures of 5–35 °C and features temperature-controlled automatic defrosting. Dehumidification performance can be significantly lower at cooler temperatures. Use on construction sites is also subject to the manufacturer's operating and safety instructions.

How does continuous condensate drainage work?

A suitable drainage hose can be connected to the unit's condensate outlet. This allows the condensate to drain continuously, so the internal 4.8-litre tank does not need to be emptied regularly when the drain line is correctly installed. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when setting up condensate drainage.

What is the difference between active dehumidification and humidity maintenance?

The active dehumidification area of up to 120 m² refers to the area specified by the manufacturer for lowering humidity. The humidity maintenance area of up to 240 m² describes a larger area in which an already regulated humidity level can be maintained. Both figures assume a ceiling height of 2.3 m. Actual capacity requirements depend on factors including room temperature, relative humidity, ceiling height and the amount of moisture entering the room.

Operating instructions

  • The device is designed for a temperature range between 5 and 35°C. Below 5°C the humidity tends to be very low, so you do not need to use a dehumidifier. Above 35°C, the overheating protection may automatically switch off the unit. The unit is not approved for operation outside the temperature range.
  • The dehumidifier warms the air so that it can dehumidify optimally. Therefore the room temperature can rise by 1-2 degrees. This is quite normal and increases the efficiency of the unit.
  • In order to work in an energy-efficient manner, the unit switches off automatically when the set humidity is reached. If the humidity rises again, the unit switches on again automatically.
  • Always take the device from the front if you want to carry it.
  • When the water tank is full, the appliance switches off automatically.
