Pipe fan on central outer wall

For outdoor sanitary installations, for example, there are ducted fans that pass through the outer wall of a building and are centrally installed. The engine sits rather deep, which shifts the noise of the operation of the ventilation in the direction of the wall. So they can not disturb inside the building. At the end of the fan here is a non-return valve attached, which prevents dirt or insects from entering from the outside. Even a high level of water vapor or rain can cause no damage to devices that have jet water protection, ie IPX5 protection. If a breakthrough of the wall is desired, then a combination version, which has an integrated heat recovery, can be used. Heat is efficiently transported by the humid air that often prevails in the bathroom. With the heat recovery this does not go unused outside. The energy is directed back into the interior via a reserve fan of the pipe.

The pipe insert fan

For a permanent grading of the air or the interval ventilation often also cheap models are sufficient. If only short distances have to be vented, ie there is a conveyor between 1.5 and 4 meters, then the fans are integrated into newly installed or already existing pipes. The direction of the air flow during ventilation through the axial fan is already selected during installation of the insertion fan. In the aftermath, however, this can also be changed. Partially, these fans with lag relay and speed control on offer.

The decentralized pipe ventilator

Venting over the roof, for example, if the bathroom is upstairs inside, can be realized by a decentralized fan. It must also be thought of the appropriate roof fan. In case of long pipe runs, a product with extensive functions, such as an overrun switch and a temperature sensor should be selected. Within the course of the tube, the housing of the fan can be mounted in any place. The flexible tubes and the sleeves are the connection between the ventilation tubes and the ventilator. For regular maintenance, the central restraint can be removed from the respective housing. So it is not necessary to remove the complete pipeline.

Different fans for every application

Uncontrolled ventilation is not enough when there is often a lot of steam in the sanitary facilities. Mold threatens to develop in the damp areas, if no additional reinforcement is used. Fans are used for windows that are difficult to reach or in rooms where there is no window.

The areas of application of the tube fans at a glance:

  • Living in the winter time, as the windows are not often opened
  • smoking rooms
  • gastronomic, private or commercial
  • Cafes and shops
  • Houses and Apartments
  • Jobs and Offices
  • pantries and storage rooms
  • Baths inside (ventilation required)
  • WC, wash-house, bathroom
  • Ventilation of wet rooms

If at the same time a hearth is operated that depends on the chimney, then it is absolutely necessary that a sufficient amount of drafts flows in.

Pipe fans in the commercial and private environment

Regular venting should not be neglected in rooms that are used privately. Because by congested, humid air, the growth of mold can be favored. The installation of fans for small commercial premises or apartments, where there is no particular steam or temperature development, can often be very easily installed. It can be used for this purpose pipes that are already laid, or it can be made a hole in the wall. For smaller size devices, the device can also be installed behind a built-in cupboard or suspended ceiling. The fans, which are permanently installed, usually convince over a very long service life, which is around 40,000 operating hours. The fan is not permanently in use. If an after-run switch is present, the device will only run for between two and 30 minutes. The performance of the fan depends on the size of the room in which it is mounted. Small room fans use less energy, but the pressure they generate is less. It should always be kept in mind that there is little noise associated with the fans during active use.

Pipe fans for gastronomy and trade

If the fan is used to vent smoke from cigarettes or odors from food, spray protection is often needed here. It is advisable to pay attention here to a high permitted coolant temperature. This should be around 60 degrees Celsius. To increase the pressure, it is sometimes also possible to install the fans one behind the other. Such a way of mounting increases the flow of air.

Pipe fans for industrial premises

In dyeing plants, for example, strict ventilation regulations are required, which are regulated by the occupational health and safety directive. A sufficient pressure build-up and diameter must be achieved by the fan so that the respective place can really be completely vented. There are models here that can be connected to existing rectangular channels.

The determination of the air quantity

The air exchange rate provides information about how often an exchange of the entire room air should take place per hour. Here there are differences between the uses in different premises. People breathe more intensively in a classroom than, for example, in their home living room. Therefore, the need for fresh oxygen is also higher here. DIN standards and empirical values define the recommended LWR. Subsequently, the LWR, which was calculated in this way, is converted to the size of the respective room. This will allow you to calculate the airflow required for the space. In the product descriptions within the technical details, the maximum output of the fans can be read off. Very powerful models make about 1950m3 per hour.

Installing the fan

It is important that the ventilation pipes and the fan match according to their diameters. For the venting of a bathroom, the conventional diameter is between 100 and 125 millimeters. The central unit or the terminal box should be easily accessible, for example for cleaning or maintenance. Material that is made of ABS plastic, is flame retardant and self-extinguishing and yellowing. This applies both to the housings of the fans and to the pipes.

How to correctly place the fan

The fan should be installed where the steam originates. This can be, for example, in the shower area. In addition, the installation should be as high as possible, as the heated air flows upwards and collects on the ceiling. The greater the distance between the vent valve and the fan itself, the lower the operating noise. It is also crucial whether there is an electrical connection option for the fan. Close to water, power lines must never run. It should also be avoided, if possible, that the tiles are pried open. To change the filter, for cleaning and maintenance, the fan should be as accessible as possible. A short run of the tube, such as an elbow, is optimal.

Overview: This should be considered when buying a tube fan

  • sufficient air flow for the respective room
  • Is it possible to install at any position along the pipe?
  • Hour
  • maximum delivery temperature
  • For which pipe size is the fan suitable?
  • Can the assembly be made in the required position?
  • thermal overload protection available
  • Heat and sound insulation
  • easy cleaning
  • robust material
  • controllable speed
  • high pressure stability and air flow
  • Is additional equipment required?
  • Weight of the item in the tube
  • two-stage, parallel or simple installation?
  • IP splash protection

Accessories and control

Tubular infeed fans, which are simple in design, can be connected to the light switch electrical system, thereby turning the hand off and on. Motors that are speed-controlled are operated either by a speed controller or a separate transformer, a built-in speed switch, an integrated lag switch or by a temperature, humidity, smoke, or motion sensor. It can be retrofitted with a follower relay. The running speed of the fan, ie the speed, can be controlled by a step transformer or a stepless controller. In order to perform the speed control automatically, a setpoint at the temperature must be programmed. If the temperature in the room rises above this specification, then the maximum level of the fan is switched on. When the temperature in the room drops below this programmed value again, the fan will automatically switch back to a lower speed. There are fans where the unit is already integrated into the controller.

Accessories for tube fans

Shutters, ventilation grilles or optional filter cartridges must be purchased separately for the tube fans. If there is an outer wall opening and a free intake, a protective grille must be used. If the components are not already included in the scope of delivery, connecting collars, connecting pieces, poppet valves, Flex tubes, ventilation pipes, pipe silencers, particle filters or sealing tape may be required. Fiberglass filters are washable and therefore very durable.
